Joan Axel has served as an elected member of the County Board of Supervisors, as an original Commissioner on the Iowa State Lottery Commission and as an original commissioner of Iowa's Communication Network. She serves as a Board Trustee of the local utility, Muscatine Power, Water and Communications and a Board Director of Central State Bank.
Preservation of local, state, and national parks, and conservation of natural resources are high priorities. She also has a keen interest in good government at all levels and youth programs in the community.
Joni and her husband, John, have two married sons and four extraordinary granddaughters. Aerobics, trekking, adventure travel, kids, and global education are some of her favorite activities.
Joni has spent over 40 years in active legal and public service in Iowa. She has served the local and state Bar Associations on commissions for hearing client grievances, revising court rules, and monitoring the unauthorized practice of law. She speaks frequently on the topics of leadership, women's financial planning and health care and estate planning issues for Iowans of all ages.
